The 68th Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee took place on June 1st, 1995. It was held at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C., and 247 spellers participated.

During the 1995 program year, Paideia, the study list that grouped words into themes like “birds” and “musical instruments,” replaced Words of the Champions as the official study list for spellers.
